EL MONTE CITY
COUNCIL CHAMBERS
CLIENT: City of El Monte
Designed while Design Partner at Gonzalez Goodale Architects
The City of El Monte sought - in the interior of their eclectically accrued Civic Center - to provide an updated City Council Chamber, along with associated conference and support facilities.
At the same time, this project provided the opportunity to craft a new entry to the City Hall from where most of its clients approach - the rear public parking areas.
The planning and design of building and site expressed new City attitudes about transparency and public amenity.
Principal materials included butt-glazed entrance at the Chamber lobby, Corten steel cladding, and a dynamic series of vertical water features leading into the existing building's new courtyard and entry.
